I've never bought a mini quadcopter before, but when I saw the thread for them on rcgroups.com I decided I would give one a try to fly indoors on bad weather days. They cost about £80-90 BNF, that's bind and fly, or you can pay a little bit more and get a cheap Hobbyzone-style radio with it. If you have a Spektrum DX8, like me, you will find the BNF version easy to setup. In fact I don't think I've ever had a multi rotor RC machine that's been as easy to setup as this one, I was flying around my rumpus room in literally 5 minutes after getting the Blade mQX out of the box. I really should have charged the battery first, but I couldn't wait. Out of the box everything is already attached, props and all, so it's a case of switching her on, waiting 5 seconds for a blue light then switching on your Spektrum radio with the bind button pressed for a few seconds and you're away. The motors are brushed, which most people baulk at these days, but it does mean they didn't need the larger Brushless ESCs (electronic speed controllers) so the weight is reduced to a minimum. It will fly outside in a light breeze, and perform a few tricks, but is ideal for indoor flying also, due to it's small size. I'm very pleased that I bought the Blade mQX quadcopter, and I would recommend it to anyone who'd like a bit of fun with a little quadcopter. It is definitely ideal for anyone who is a total beginner to multi-copters as it is very easy to fly and light enough to take a few knocks without breaking. It does come with a set of spare propellers and a charger for the 1 cell 500mah battery. I would recommend buying a few batteries if you want maximum fun at a flying venue without waiting to recharge all the time, you will get about 8-10 minutes of flying though, even with a camera attached like in the below video. The video has me mumbling at the start (sorry about that) about how I attached the camera to take the onboard footage in the same video. |
