It wasn't a very nice looking day today, a bit windy and very grey, so not very good for aerial photgraphy. Still, it wasn't raining so I thought I would mess around with the little Blade mQX quadcopter outdoors for the first time. I was a bit skeptical of people who've said it flies well outside, with it being so small and light, but it really does. Even in a bit of wind it seems to cut through the air quite nicely. I said this in my last Blade post, but this really is a perfect trainer for anyone who is thinking of getting into flying quadcopters but isn't ready to fork out hundreds, or thousands of pounds yet. As you can see in the video I had a go at a few rolls and a loop the loop, which is something I wouldn't dare do with my expensive setups. I feel that with the Blade mQX quadcopter I can just relax and let loose, try everything I'm too afraid to have a go at with my Mikrokopter of DJI Wookong kit. I've ordered some more batteries for it because it is so much fun that I'd like to play longer, though perhaps not on days like today as my hands were numb with the cold. I should mention that I crashed it a few times today, one time it was because I wasn't high enough for a roll and it hit the ground at the bottom of the curve. However, I haven't broken anything yet - smaller and lighter RC flying stuff is always a lot tougher, I find you can usually pick it up off the floor and get right back up in the air again, like I did today. |
