This is my first real attempt at aerial video and I was a bit over eager to try it when I really should have waited for a less windy day. Anyway, it's a Syma S022 3-Channel Radio Controlled Chinook (Large) with a cheap 'Fly DV' camera taped underneath. The only problem was that this semi-indoor heli didn't have enough power to fly against the breeze, so it got further and further away from me until it was out of range. I later discovered that with non-2.4mhz helis it's often better to unravel the antenna and let it hang down below the helicopter, this way you get much better trasmission range. In this video it falls from about 80 feet with no power, but is ready to fly again right away. I've crashed this heli dozens of times now and there's still no damage, aside from a few scratches. I take it out with me as my back-up fun heli, for when I cock up flying other stuff and break them. P.S. The guy in the light blue top getting ever smaller is me. |
