Last week we experienced the tail end of Hurricane Katia, which was not as impressive as the proper hurricane but was hardly ideal weather for rc flying. So of course, me being me, I thought I would go and film something anyway. My acolyte, Kevin, was telling me about these Devil's Arrows that he'd searched for somewhere around Boroughbridge, so I decided we would go and find these ancient standing stones. I have to say one of the first feelings you get on arriving at the stones is a little disappointed. Two of them are in the middle of a farmer's field and the third is by a road. Boroughbridge itself is a reasonably pretty little town, but it doesn't have a lot to attract tourists so one would imagine they'd try and make something of their menhirs - they are, after all, thousands of years old and of historical significance. In the short time we were there at least a dozen other monument seekers came along to the little lane, looked disappointed then took photos from afar, because you can't get to the stone without trampling crops, then left. Of course we could get as close as we liked with our hexacopter, though it did take two attempts after being rained off the first time (see second video below), so here is the only aerial video, or any video full stop, of the Devil's Arrows standing stones at Boroughbridge. And here is our first attempt, filmed by Kevin, where I had to hurridly fly back before we both got totally drenched. |
