I went on holiday last week to Scotland and did hope to make some aerial videos there, but it was raining pretty much the whole time. On the way back we stopped off at a place called Bamburgh (sounds like Bam Burra), in Northumberland, where there is a castle and a large beach. The sun was shining but the wind was very strong, in excess of 20mph, but I thought I would give it a try anyway. Most of the video I took of the castle was unusable because the quadcopter was all over the place as I wrestled against the wind, but I still managed to salvage some okay shots to add into the movie. Down on the beach it was even more windy, but the wind direction happened to go exactly along the beach towards where we were walking so I gave it a go anyway. As long as I kept heading into the wind for my aerial photography it was fine. In fact I think I got more lift from the wind so didn't need as much throttle and bizarrly ended up with a longer flight time - close to 20 minutes! Dispite the wind and the wobble wavey effect it had on the filming, I think it was worth putting up here because the scenery is just so beautiful. I was inspired by David's video on rcexplorer.se where he flies over the breaking waves and wanted to try something similar. It was a bit too windy to venture out as far as David did in Cancun (Mexico) and Northumberland is perhaps not as exotic to some, but I do think it has a certain something worth recoding |
