DJI Wookong Hexacopter Aerial Video Rowntree Park in York

Rowntree Park is normally a popular place for people to hang out, especially for kids feeding ducks and playing on the various climbing equipment and swings.

Last Tuesday I went there with my acolyte, Kevin, on the premise that we'd pretty much have the place to ourselves because, as I said, "who in their right mind would want to go to the park on such a cold, grey and windy day?" to which Kevin replied, dressed in overcoat, scarf and thermal gloves and still shivering with the heating turned up in the car, "Who indeed..."

It wasn't super windy, but probably 10 to 12 miles per hour and more than I'd tested my DJI Wookong controlled hexacopter in before. Well, it did okay, better than practically every other multi rotor I've tried in the wind, apart from my Mikrokopter, but I still have my DJI Wookong on default settings so there is probably space to improve on stability in breezy conditions.

The footage isn't the best ever because it was pretty gloomy, and I had to rotate the footage slightly afterwards and zoom in because I had the camera mount set at a jaunty angle. I also messed up some footage by having the camcorder fully zoomed in before take off. It was so cold, just slightly above freezing with a nasty breeze, it hurt my fingers to tighten the camera mounting screw and the batteries only lasted a couple of minutes, longest was about 4 minutes, when they would go for about 10 minutes in warm weather.

Still, it's sometimes interesting to capture bleakness as there is always a little beauty in it somewhere. I liked the pigeons on the roof who were completely un-phased and the Canada Geese on the lake, who ironically visit us during the winter because it's warmer than where they come from.
